Aping glory
The Maharashtra Badminton Association (MBA) has announced that it would soon start the ‘Indian Badminton League’. The tournament would be held towards the end of the year and would have six franchise outfits. It is said to be modeled after the billion dollar ‘Indian Premier League’ started by the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI). The Badminton Association of India had given the clearance to this tournament in the attempt of a possible revival of the sport in the country. The basic model of the tournament was tried out in the Pune district of the state and it was a phenomenal hit with crowds. This is what prompted the authorities to take it to the next level.
