Badminton- A 18th Century Sport

History says that the sport of badminton was first played in the middle of 18th century by British. Initially, it was played by the British military officers. It was played with a woollen bally. Later, shuttle cocks were introduced. The rules of the game were set in England and it was played in wet and windy conditions. In 1873, the game got the name badminton. In 1899, the fist badminton tournament was held. The IBF or International Badminton Federation was established in the year 1934 with England, Denmark, Netherlands, France, Wales, New Zealand, Ireland and Scotland. In 1936, India got her affiliation. In 1992, Badminton has been introduced to the Olympic Games. Presently all the countries play badminton and it has become a popular sport.
